Holiday in Bangkok - 9 November 2008

Since our flight had been delayed, we had a whole extra hour to do whatever. So, we decided to take it easy in the morning. We had our breakfast, then chilled in our room for a bit before heading into town at about 11.30am.

We decided to take the skytrain. That's Dila waiting at the platform at the station. The train was not "rush hour" full but there there was still quite a lot of people.

Our first stop was at Siam Center, where we didn't stay for very long. However, I did stop for a bit to take pix of an ongoing exhibition called ScrapLab (see my seperate entry on it). Generally, most malls won't allow you to take any pix within the mall, but the exhibition was an exception. So, I snapped away!

I snuck & took this pix at Siam Center of seemed to be an activity/prep room. That's Dila standing in the middle of a circle of colourful benches between Siam Center and Discovery Center (the mall next door)

The Thai community seem to be very environmentally conscious - this box was collecting used CDs. There was a similar one in blue in Siam Center (which I couldn't photograph!) that was collecting used jeans. What would become of the CDs and jeans, I really don't know.. I suppose, they would be creatively turned into something else ala ScrapLab.

Here's another one collecting used water bottles. It looks so cool, no?
We spent quite a lot of time at this place called The Loft where I picked up these mints to give away to my colleagues..
Cool packaging & for a good cause..

The pink one's in support of breast cncer research..

And, the black one's in support of the Thai Red Cross..
The Loft has all these cool, cute stuff.. plus, it's a pretty big place and since I had a little more time this time, I could browse at a leisurely pace. Apart from The Loft, we also checked out Rooms & Propaganda, which both also have similar type cool stuff..
We were starting to get hungry and made our way across the road to another mall call MBK to have lunch. We went to this really nice food court called The Fifth. Incidentally, this was the exact place where I had my last lunch the last time I was in Bangkok.
Dila & our food.. Yum!!

I had the tomyam noodles, while Dila had the Thai fried rice with fried fish, etc. & sambal set - incidentally, the exact dish I had the last time I was here! It is a really yummy dish but my taste buds were leaning towards tomyam..
After lunch we walked around MBK for a bit before it was time to head back to the hotel to get our bags and head on to the airport.. sigh!

Caught a glimpse of this guy on the way to the train station and was glad he was still there when we were making our way back to the hotel. He seemed to be selling what looked like the equivalent to our Malaysian roti pisang! Cool! Even the dough looks the same but I dunno if he flips it the way our mamaks do the roti back in Malaysia..

I'd taken a pix with Godzilla the last time I was here.. This is just a different angle that shows it's tail half broken into the building..

A view of the airport from a distance as the sun was setting.. very pretty..

Dila and I on the plane, which took off without further delay.. As sad as we were to leave (seemed so short a stay!), we were still glad that that we took off on time.

The view over Bangkok.. Bye, Bangkok..

As usual, the flight back always seems faster and before we knew it, we were already flying over Sepang..

And, we were in the airport already..

3 days came and went pretty quickly.. wished we had just a little more time to do just a little more but, still.. we had fun.. Dila & I have already secured our flight tickets to go to Singapore in June next year and we're also on the look out for a bargain to go to Bali, but I'm pretty sure we'll be back in Bangkok some day..
