Holiday in Bangkok - 7 November 2008

After waiting months (that's just the way it goes with Air Asia!), some uncertainties due to the reports of political unstability and a busy week before, we were finally going to Bangkok! Yay!! Our flight was at 10.40am (on Friday, 7 Nov) and we took off as scheduled. I was travelling with my ex-housemate, Dila, and were were pretty excited!

Dila & I just before take off..

The plane flying over I don't know where but it sure looked pretty..

Despite being informed by the captain (of the plane) that it would be cloudy, and it actually did look pretty cloudy coming in to Bangkok, we arrived in Bangkok at 11.30am local time (12.30 Malaysian time) to bright sunshine and got out of Immigration pretty fast.

A couple of shot of the airport.. something I didn't do the last time I was here..

.. and Dila, who was all set to go, go, go..

And, go we did. We stayed at Take A Nap, the same place I'd stayed with Fred the last time after our conference. We didn't have any trouble getting to our hotel and despite the official check-in time being 3.00pm, we were allowed in to our room immediately.

The hip graphics on our room wall..

Yeah.. that's our room.. Since I'd been here before I knew what to expect.. It's a pretty basic place but it's cheap (our room was THB800 per night), clean and a really decent (i.e. no visits by "working girl", people coming back drunk and making lotsa noise or fights) place to stay at.

We were starting to get pretty hungry and after freshening up a little, we set out in search of food. The first place we'd chanced upon was actually McDonald's and even though Dila and I are not huge fans, the promo poster of the prawn nugget thingy looked pretty good! Of course the real thing didn't turn out to be exactly like the poster but there were chunky bit of prawns (as opposed to whole prawns shown in the poster!) and it tasted pretty good. Plus, we don't have this in Malaysia (yet?)

We both had the same thing.. Dila trying out the sauces.. there was tomato ketchup, thai chilli sauce and Dila's fave was the combo of both. The combination of the tangy tomato and slightly sweet thai chilli sauce was quite nice actually.

The McD's was actually part of the Robinsons Mall and we decided to go check it out. We spent a good couple of hour in there and only ended up with me buying a book on Dinosaurs.
My purchase, which was on 50% discount..

By the time we got out out of there it was drizzling. So, we ducked into one of the many massage places to have an hour's Thai traditional massage and a manicure/pedicure - all for THB650! What a steal! No pix here - too busy with all the pampering.
After that, we decided to check out the night market all along the main (Silom) road and have dinner before going back to the hotel.
Dinner was at this place called Chester's Grill..

I had the grilled chicken, which was actually very good! Dila had this prawn in basil thingy, which she said was "not bad"..
After dinner, we walked around around a little bit more and came across this seafood place where the food looked really great - we were SO going to go there the next day for dinner! Then, were just headed back to the hotel for a nice shower and to turn in early. We had a big day out at Chatuchak Weekend Market the next day and we needed all the rest we could get!
